Insights from the bride, Heather…

Jordan and I planned our wedding a little different than most people. We weren’t concerned about having a big fancy venue with a lot of people we didn’t know wishing us well. When we thought about what was most important to us it was family, and having a drama free, fun day. I LOVE the beach. Barefoot on the beach would have been my ideal wedding had eternity not been an issue. Since both of us agree the temple was a must do, Hawaii seemed like the next best option. From there we knew photography was a big deal. Let’s be honest, it’s the one thing you can take away from your wedding day besides a marriage. Since I knew Marielle Hayes pretty much rocks, we had that covered. We then planned our wedding based on which pictures we thought would be cool. Sunset beach pictures, riding off on mopeds, and getting in the water in my dress topped that list. Planning was fun for us. We were planning a family beach vacation…and just throwing a wedding into the mix of it. We found a beach house to rent up on the north shore that had a good yard for a luncheon after the wedding. Jordan’s dad knew someone who knew a caterer on Oahu. Von Logan was awesome! His daughters even offered to come over one day and give all of us surf lessons. He also set us up with someone who made cakes. When we got to Hawaii I was so happy to find the beach house just as I had imagined it. Perfect for what we wanted. We spent about 5 days relaxing and hanging out with our families and taking care of some last minute details. We found mopeds to rent and leis for Jordan and me at Turtle Bay just up the street from our house. A snack bar lady (yep that’s right) did our flowers for less than $150. So many things came together perfectly, each one making our day unique and something we can talk about and laugh. Seriously the kindness of strangers is amazing. The night before the wedding Marielle came up to take some sunset pictures for us. I highly recommend getting some photos done before your actual wedding day. You don’t have anything else to worry about and can be more relaxed, more yourself. Aside from pictures a dress that fit the setting was so important to me. I’m lucky enough to have a very talented mother that made just that for me. Having a few days before the wedding to relax was perfect. I woke up just before sunrise on our wedding day and took a walk on the beach. I cannot begin to describe how calming that is. There is something about the ocean that can put you at ease. After that Jordan and I ran up to turtle bay to pick up the mopeds. Riding off on them meant the only way my hair was going to last was to head to the temple in rollers. Pretty much awesome! We spent so much time laughing we didn’t have time to get stressed. The laid back ways of Hawaii continued throughout the rest of the day. We were sealed, rode off on mopeds, had a great lunch with family, cut a cake, and finished the day off where I started it-on the beach. It was perfect. Not everything went as planned…it rained a little in the morning, I feel completely in the ocean after warning Jordan I would be so mad at him if he tried to push me all the way in, but when I look back on our wedding day, I wouldn’t change a thing. Everyone has their perfect wedding. Mine was simple, surrounded by the people I love; so much fun for us, and it had the beach. I love looking at our photos and remembering that day. We have so many amazing and unique ones.
